Who is the tool for?

Anyone can use Build Insights. Here are some ways it can be used:

For industry professionals, Build Insights signals future construction demand and workforce trends – helping you build a pipeline of work and prepare to be in the right places at the right times, with the right people and resources.

For people looking to build, buy or rent a home, the tool helps you compare the affordability of those decisions.

Researchers can use Build Insights to access reliable, ready-to-use data for their work, and to assess the need for new areas of research.

For central and local government, the tool makes it more efficient to respond to questions about sector data and trends, since the information is all in one place. You can also look at regional differences in sector indicators.

What sorts of data are in the tool?

The tool presents information in a dashboard style across seven key areas of the building system. Some of the key insights the tool will help you understand are:

  • housing demand
  • construction forecast pipeline
  • land availability and section prices
  • consenting timeframes across the motu
  • builders’ and trades’ performance indicators
  • housing conditions and energy consumption across the motu
